State of Wyoming Election Judges
Election judges are essential to our democracy. Election judges are officials that staff local polling places, administer election procedures, and ensure the rights of voters are protected on Election Day. Serving as an election judge provides an opportunity to learn about the elections process and is a great service to our community.
Albany County depends on good citizens who volunteer to work as election judges. On election days, each precinct needs from three to eight judges to work processing and assisting voters. Judges need to be registered voters and must be physically, morally and mentally competent to perform the duties. Judges must not attempt to influence voters or make comments about candidates or political parties.
Training School
All judges and members of counting boards are obligated to attend at least one training school for each election. Albany County pays $100 for working an election from 6
am to approximately 8 pm or whenever the precinct balances. There is an additional $10 payment for attending a training school.
Becoming an Election Judge
You may become an election judge by pursuing one of the following options:
1. Contact the county chairman of your major or minor political party; or
2. Contact your County Clerk or your municipal clerk.

All appointments are made by the County Clerk. If appointed, you must attend training conducted by your county clerk. W.S. 22-8-110.
Student Eligibility

Whether participating in the Student Election Judge Program (PDF) or helping the County Clerk’s Office conduct the election, opportunities are available for students aged 16 to 18. At the polls, a Student Election Judge is an official who works side-by-side with adult Election Judges to ensure election integrity. By participating in the program, you will be paid and may be eligible to earn school credit. This experience is a great resume builder.

NOTE: Training school information will be forthcoming as we prepare for the 2022 election.
